What are the ZIP codes in Salt Lake City?
Ten ZIP codes sit wholly or almost wholly inside Salt Lake City limits: 84101, 84102, 84103, 84104, 84105, 84108, 84111, 84112, 84113 and 84116. That list comes from an October 2026 count matching the state's Salt Lake County address data to official municipal boundaries. The one partial case is 84108, at 94.8% Salt Lake City with the rest in Emigration Canyon. Beyond those ten, the map gets less tidy. 84106, 84109 and 84115 are split between Salt Lake City and a neighboring city. 84117, 84121 and 84124 have no residential addresses in the city at all, even though their mail often reads Salt Lake City. That is why a ZIP code cannot confirm which city a home is in, and why most neighborhood names span more than one ZIP. The tables below match each neighborhood and nearby city to its ZIP codes, with home values for the ones people search most.
The USPS ZIP Locale Detail file for October 2026 also lists dozens of numbers that do not behave like neighborhoods. Several serve single institutions, such as 84132 for University Medical Center and 84190 for the Salt Lake County Complex, according to the state's PO box layer. You can skip those when you are searching for a home.
Why can a Salt Lake City address sit outside Salt Lake City?
Because a ZIP code describes a mail route, and the city on your envelope comes from the post office. USPS says plainly that "ZIP Codes do not necessarily adhere to city or municipal boundaries." The same page explains that the city in an address usually describes where the USPS delivery unit is located, which is "not necessarily the same as the ultimate point of delivery's town or city."
84117 shows how far that gap can run. The Holladay branch post office serves it, and USPS records that branch's physical city as Salt Lake City in its October 2026 file. Yet none of the ZIP's 10,880 residential address points sit inside Salt Lake City limits.
Neighborhoods add one more layer, since their boundaries do not follow ZIP lines either. Most of the areas below span two or more ZIP codes.
Which ZIP code is each Salt Lake City neighborhood in?
The table uses Salt Lake City's community council boundaries where they exist, measured by residential address in October 2026. A council area is a civic boundary and may differ from how a listing uses the same name. Federal Heights has no published street boundary, so its row rests on spot checks of individual addresses.

Yalecrest shows why the street matters. The city bounds it at Sunnyside Avenue, 1300 South, 1300 East and 1900 East, and a single street can change ZIP along the way: 1500 East Yale Avenue geocodes to 84105, while 1800 East Yale Avenue is 84108.

Read that table from the other direction as well. 84124 is 55.5% Millcreek and 44.5% Holladay, so the ZIP alone cannot tell you which city a home is in.

Census figures use ZIP Code Tabulation Areas, which the bureau calls "generalized areal representations" of ZIP codes, so they will not match a postal route exactly. A ZIP figure also blends every city inside it, which is why 84117 reads $648,900 while the City of Holladay itself reads $763,400.
What should you check when a listing shows a ZIP code?
Check the parcel, because the ZIP only tells you how mail arrives. Planning, permits and local taxes follow the municipal boundary and the tax area, so two homes in one ZIP can sit under different rules.
Three checks settle most questions:
- Look up the parcel on the county record. It shows the tax area and the actual jurisdiction, whatever the mailing city says.
- Confirm the city. An 84106 address can be Salt Lake City, Millcreek or South Salt Lake, and each has its own planning office.
- Treat neighborhood names as descriptions. A name in a listing is the seller's wording. Compare the address with the boundary you care about.
